One way to get some of the functions you need in your outdoor kitchen without purchasing a very expensive grill is with the use of outdoor grill accessories. There are many different accessories that would fall into this category, in fact there are probably hundreds. For now we will talk about a few of the most popular.

Grill Lights

One thing that a lot of people would like but that generally comes in the higher end grills is a light inside the grill. Grill lights are a nice feature, and but a lot of people figure they don’t need them so they don’t buy a grill with lights inside. Then when the outdoor kitchen project is complete, they start to use the grill and realize they don’t have enough outdoor kitchen lighting. Well, there is good news available! There are grill lights available that simply clip onto the side of your grill and shed all the light you need onto the situation. Like anything else, these lights are available in a pretty wide range of quality and  price. A good stainless steel grill light costs less than $30, so it is a good addition at a relatively low cost when compared to most other things in outdoor kitchens.

Grill Covers

Another popular accessory that really helps to keep your grill clean is the addition of a grill cover. Most brands of grills offer a cover that is made to fit over that brand of grill. This is true of built in grills as well as free standing grills. Depending on the brand, the cover might be made from leather or a combination of plastic and leather. Usually the higher end grills have the nicer covers, and those leather covers definitely last longer than the plastic versions. When dealing with a stainless steel bbq, using a cover when the grill is not in use will save you a lot of stainless steel polishing! It is not that the weather will hurt the grill. If you have a grill made from 304 stainless you have nothing to worry about as far as that goes. But rain and bugs and dust have a way of making even new stainless look dirty.

Grill Tools

Perhaps a more functional addition to your grilling would be a quality set of grill tools. Again, this is a grill accessory that has a wide price range. A lower priced set of grill tools will cost you around $10, while a much more heavy duty set might cost close to $100. Whether that is worth it or not is entirely up to you, the point is simply that there are many options with this accessory. One tool that is not normally included in the outdoor kitchen kit, but on that will save your arm hair and save you some pain is a grill mitt. These really come in handy when trying to deal with a renegade piece of meet that is not cooperating, or when you have to move a grill grate that might still be hot.

Grill Baskets

Grill baskets really help people expand their grilling options. A vegetable basket allows you to grill your vegetables right alongside your meat and keeps you from having to work in both the indoor and outdoor kitchens. A charcoal basket lets you get that great charcoal taste that some people love without having to have a charcoal burning grill. With the popularity of gas grills the art of charcoal grilling has become a lost one.
